I saw the quote in the meme above in an email that I get from Neale Donald Walsh. It sparked a thought about those pesky things called emotions.
The full quote is “Sadness is nothing more than love announced. Sadness and unhappiness are not the same thing and it is good to remember that. If you are sad… be glad. Sadness cleanses the heart.” – Neale Donald Walsh.
I love the underlying message.
First, it defines that when the emotion of sadness manifests, it means something. There is nothing wrong with you or with the emotion; it’s an indication that you love that which surrounds the feeling.
Second, it distinguishes that being unhappy is not sadness. Don’t confuse the two.
For those of us that put forth effort on a daily basis towards having a positive and supportive mindset, this is one of those things that gets easily gets swept under the rug.
It has a stigma that signifies weakness.
Nothing could be further from the truth. To overlook it is where the weakness truly manifests. If you are willing to acknowledge what you are feeling then you can acknowledge and choose your best outcome.
Be okay with your emotions, feel your feelings and then move on.
Accept them. Go through them instead of avoid them. To shun or compartmentalize them will only produce a more unpleased result later on.
If you don’t enjoy what you are feeling; acknowledge that too. There is great wisdom to be found in understanding why we feel certain things and why we don’t.
So, I have a challenge for today:
Pay attention to your feelings. Allow them space, then release them at the point where they no longer serve you greater happiness. Then, enjoy the clarity as you do.
